To meet current projected demand, Empower Pharmacy relocated a single facility to two separate facilities to handle 503A and 503B related compounding functions. The IPS design team was tasked with the interior fit out of the new 503A facility.
Empower planned to relocate their 503A building to a site that was under development. The new facility holds 503A compounding operation and common facilities such as pharmacy space and administrative space across two floors and a total of approximately 89,000sf.
IPS delivered basis of design and detailed design of this facility and then assisted Empower in making key design decisions with a value engineering effort, then transition into the detailed design phase of the project.
The detailed design phase developed the equipment specifications for procurement and the construction documents needed to execute the technical scope of work developed during the BOD phase.
The interior spaces on the first floor of the building will include dispensing, production and production support, labs and lab support, warehouse utility room, locker rooms, and toilet rooms. In addition, the second floor of the facility will include offices and cubicles, conference and training rooms, lunch room, and a mechanical mezzanine.
The production suite accommodated the creation of products such as non-sterile products, oral solid dosage in the form of tablets, capsules, gels, and creams/ointments, in addition to sterile products such as vials and sterile lyophilized products.
The new facility was designed with the following major items and their supporting functions:
- Manual fill line
- Automated filling line, stopper and capper
- Semi-automated lyophilization line
- Vial washer and depryogenaration tunnel
- Formulation vessels
- Metal and glassware parts washer
- Autoclave/VHP
- Tablet press
- Capsule machine
- Granulator
- Three (3) air-cooled chillers – 1050 tons
